MTNL DOUBLE GAME

FIXED LINE TELEPHONES

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) in Delhi and Mumbai have introduced attractive tariff-schemes for its cordless Garud phone-service to compete with private phone-operators. But MTNL does not offer these attractive tariff-structures for landline services where it has a monopoly. Subscribers of land line service find it difficult to switch over to otherwise convenient and cheaper cordless Garud service because their old numbers are with all those dealing frequently with these subscribers. Since MTNL is a public-sector undertaking, it should feel its duty towards common subscribers, and arrange same common and attractive tariff structures for its landline connections as they have done for the wireless Garud phone-service.
