Shimla: A couple in Himachal Pradesh celebrated 83 years of their marriage.

Pyara Singh, 103, and Hansa Devi, 101, celebrated their marriage anniversary in their native village in the Kangra valley, some 240 km from Shimla, in the Himalayan foothills in northern India.

The couple have three sons and two daughters. Their entire family numbers 81, including several great, great grand children.

Singh served the British army and is a war hero. He had fought in World War II and even has a few bullet injury scars from it.

He has been receiving pension as an ex-army soldier for the past 65 years.

"Leading a disciplined life along with hard work and honesty have been the highlights of our life," Singh was quoted as saying in local newspapers on Monday.

"The Almighty has been kind to us as we have more pleasant memories than sad ones," he said.
