LARGESSE FOR MPS

LS SPEAKER ON MPLADS SCHME

It refers to bold and justified views of Lok Sabha Speaker against costly and often misused MPLAD Scheme at a time when most Parliamentarians were raising voice to increase annual fund for each MP to rupees five crores from present two crores. Even an earlier sting-operation catching Parliamentarians on camera seeking bribe to approve schemes to be funded through their MPLADS funds endorsed views of Planning Commission that the scheme is a fount of corruption draining huge Rs 1600 croes annually for corruption-related projects. Many MPs are over-generous to fund their favourite organisations for their projects from this scheme even though such funding may have nothing to do with public-welfare. Scrapping of the scheme can abolish several controversial budgetary needs like cess or disinvestment. Our Parliamentarians must have capability to get work done for public-welfare from existing administrative-machinery rather than needing short-cut by way of corruption-generating scheme!
