DHINGA MASTI OF AN MP

PRIVILLEGES OF AN MP

It refers to threat by an MP to an Air India pilot to drag him to Parliament’s Privilege Committee for de-planing the MP from a flight. It is a common practice that quite often elected representatives try to unduly influence persons on duty with their official status. Common sense does not allow any reasoning why a pilot would like to unnecessarily go for such a big dispute with any passenger without any valid reason. Any undue interference by officials of Air India or Union Civil Aviation Ministry in the matter can be a cause of concern for air-safety in time to come. Otherwise also, even an MP is a passenger like other normal passengers, and it in no way concerns privileges of a Parliamentarian. If complaint of the concerned MP is genuine, he should approach authorities as a normal passenger rather than using weapon of a Parliamentarian’s privilege.
