*History of Shahrukh Khan's politics against Indian security forces, and
pro-Pakistan communalism*

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Shahrukh Khan has pretty much stopped mentioning the word 'Pakistan' since
the day it slipped out of his mouth ahead of My Name is Khan's release. He's
now all of a sudden, with help of Barkha Dutt/NDTV and other similar media
types, now more like that Gujarati freedomfighter Mahatma Gandhi or that
Bihari ideologue Gautam Buddha standing by his convictions.

In reality in his statements last couple days, depending on the situation
he's been flip-flopping by the hour. But let's go further than just last
couple days. Let's investigate further what those convictions of Khan just
might be. And what we are looking at with this guy.

To start off politely, the direct irony of Shahrukh Khan's position today is
one predicted long ago. That today he's seeking help of Indian security
forces to ensure release of his film My Name is Khan. These are the very
people whose mission and purpose, not to mention service and occasionally
blood sacrifice, he undermines by promoting Pakistan explicitly and
sometimes implicitly, a country which is not exactly secular, has fought 4
wars against these Indian security forces, which won't get out of occupied
Kashmir simply on communal grounds. Which sends its units like Ajmal Qasab
and Ismail Khan with the persistence of a Mohammad Gajni and then plays
victim, whose cricketers like Sohail Tanvir make money off IPL in India and
then look to taunt 'hindus' on their local tv back in Pakistan when things
take a turn not in their favor.

But to those following Shah Rukh Khan over the years, this is not
surprising. Let's consider Shahrukh Khan's politics and agendas via his
choices off and on screen, which in part may explain why he is popular with
the Pakistanis overseas:

- In 1998, Khan's Dil Se shows Indian army as rapists. The 'heroine' was a
'noble' suicidebomber, a phenomena more common in the Islamic middle east
not Assam where the film was supposedly set.

- In 2000, his Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani has a 'hindu' as a terrorist.

- In 2001, he makes a film on India's greatest emperor whose insignia is on
the flag itself, Ashok Maurya, using a paltry budget (compared to a Jodha
Akbar or Mughal-E-Azam) and shows him is some very questionable light at
that. The treatment of Ashok Maurya by Khan is very different in tone
compared to far more questionable characters like Akbar and mughal kings.

- In 2002, a movie of his is linked to being funded by people who are later
arrested amidsts suspicion of operating at behest of Pakistani underworld.

- In 2004 his home production Main Hoon Naa has a hindu in the Indian army
once again as its lead villain.

- In 2007, in his home production Om Shanti Om, he and Farah Khan mock the
legendary patriotic filmmaker Manoj Kumar (nicknamed 'Bharat') but not Dilip
Kumar whose name is Yusuf Khan, leading Manoj Kumar to being the first major
public superstar to suggest Khan may be having a communal agenda behind the
clever talk.

- In 2010, Khan blasts Indians for not selecting Pakistanis in IPL when it
was speculated that Indians did so as a measure to remind Pakistan of
consequences of lapses like 26/11. But Khan instead jumped in, essentially
doing propoganda for Pakistan using the media and then gloating about his
Pakistani father to boot. This finally triggered the Shivsena assault on
Khan which continues.

Taken in isolation, each of these can be overlooked perhaps. But over time a
pattern starts to build.

For a muslim enjoying incredible privileges over 20 years in Hindu-majority
Hindustan; privileges which let's face it, would not be available to any
Hindu in a muslim-majority 'wonderful' Pakistan, Shah Rukh Khan has a lot of
explaining to do.

The problem for him, is regardless of MNIK, he needs security. And Pakistan
can't secure him. Nor can Abu Salem or Osama Bin Laden. Only India can.
Which means Hindus have to provide that security. The same Hindus whose
wider interests he's been undermining all these years, using Hindustan
cinema no less.

Regardless of MNIK, he's got a problem on his hands moving forward as the
issue is now out in the open.
