HYDERABAD: Former union minister P Shiv Shanker on Saturday expressed concern over the "total degeneration" of values in the Congress party and lashed out at AICC chief Sonia Gandhi for "lacking" political experience.

"The Congress is trying to garner votes in the name of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. But the Congress is no longer the party of values," Shiv Shanker observed soon after he joined the Praja Rajyam Party of actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi here on Saturday.
Sonia Gandhi had "buried" the lofty ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru long ago, he alleged.
He said there was nothing wrong in the allegations made by another former Congress leader Margaret Alva over the "sale of party tickets" in Karnataka.
"It happened even in Andhra Pradesh in 2004. There were a series of reports on the sale of Congress tickets in the Assembly elections," he said.

Ridiculing the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party over chanting the "social justice mantra", the former union minister said they had failed to achieve anything in this regard all these years.

"Only Chiranjeevi can ensure social justice. I have full confidence in his leadership and hence joined the Praja Rajyam Party," Shiv Shanker said.
