Wellington: The Indian government was reported on Saturday to have recalled its high commissioner to New Zealand amid a chorus of protest about him from the local Indian community, a media report said in Wellington.

Harish Kumar Dogra, a career diplomat who was appointed to Wellington two years ago, has been given a week to pack his bags and return to New Delhi, The Dominion Post newspaper said.

Dogra’s office declined to confirm or deny the report.

The high commissioner was accused of "avoiding" the local Indian community, the report said, and added that the commission had allegedly began to decline visa applications.
